“After Archie Comics canceled the “Mighty Mutanimals” Steve Murphy (aka Dean Clarrain) told me they may return in the TMNT books one day. I was still on the Archie comp list, and one day an issue of TMNT arrived at my door.. I was stunned to see the Mutanimals had returned only to be literally murdered.

I made this sketch and ran it in the fanzine Rowrbrazzle. Somehow, Murphy saw the drawing, and called me to ask if he could run it in the TMNT comic. I said yes.

I liked drawing these characters, and the comics sold very briskly on the newsstands. I was never completely sure why the book got cancelled. ” — Mike Kazaleh;Animator, comic book artist; i.e. Mighty Mutanimals, TMNTA, Ren & Stimpy, ect. –

  1. Seeing this image, it reminded me of the day I had picked up an issue (or someone else did) of Mighty Mutanimals that Mike drew (issue 5). Somehow I never got any other issue, but it was a shame finding out right now after some 20 years that they killed these guys off anyway. At least Mike got to leave the viewers with this image!
