The Dune-drivin’, Sand-Surfin’ Beach Machine

Whoa, dude! Grab your board and slip into some skimpy shorts, cuz Mike’s takin’ his Kowabunga Surf Buggy to blue heaven, curl city, water wonderland – you know, the beach. Strap yourself in and take the most radical ride of your young life as Mike drives off dunes and skids in sand. But don’t worry, the sand skiddin’ traction tires never lose their grip. And with the reciprocatin’ surfboard bumper, bumps bite it before you ride it. While Raph fires on the Foot with the soakin’ soda can machine guns, you can chill it, and snag yourself a sand snack or some frozen fire power from the chillin’ ammo chest. Let’s cut to the chase so i can get this out of the way, “RISE OF THE TMNT” is all the talk GOOD AND BAD of coarse on the interwebs. I’ll discuss this past week’s leak briefly i can and elaborate a bit of what i personally know.

The “Tumbling Turtle” Tumblr blog released this supposed licencing expo cell pic that kinda weren’t supposed to release. Tokka had seen this a couple months back but remained quiet as i was still trying to process how i would phrase what i have learned about the Toonier Andy Suriano inspired designs of the new show. In the end i was specifically trying to time it out as long as possible as to not get in the way of the official NICKELODEON reveal and to not get anyone in trouble ( . and for respect of the Nickelodeon group whom i have to high regards for at this point, sorry). This person has been trying to pry as much info as they could out of me for a number of months now. Being the pussycat that i am, i was trying to be polite as i could without spilling everything i learned. The stress from the pressure from was barely averted – but here we are at the official reveal.

.Elaborating slightly on what i understand of the show.. ::

Echoes of prior animated productions like Lloyd Goldfine’s 2003 4KIDS TMNT show take shape in Ant Ward’s newer 2D production, the Foot Clan may seem to emanate newer powers, “MIST – LIKE” powers not to dissimilar from the FOOT MYSTICS in the 2k3 toon. Be that in “magical powers” in general or in teleportation remains to be seen.

Sean Schemmel’s “THE ANCIENT ONE” from TMNT 2k3 , Splinter’s super-elder sensei looks to be a slight influence on Rise’s Eric Bauza Splinter. Prolly will be a more serious character than the “eternally youthful” teacher. Then again, if you know Eric – – Splinter may be even more fun & humorous than we think !! !!

Some of the new designs of the most iconic villains in the RISE – show remind me of classic, cartoon “EXECUTIONER” tropes.

An all new cybernetic, corpulent mutant villain of gargantuan proportions may come to play in this new series. Could this be one of Maurice LaMarche’s hillariously disturbing vocal roles ( as part of one of the veteran TMNT VAs brought in by Rob Paulsen !! ) ?!

I’ll elaborate more when i feel comfortable to do so, when it is appropriate and won’t get in Nickelodeon’s way. We’ll see.

–>> The paint on Quarry’s prototype is pretty cool, this is similar to an effect of what was finally produced OVER a year later than when it was originally to be released. I recall a “spitting” action feature announced for this toy. That was not realized on the final figure. I’m not sure if i recall an actual prototype showing that feature. This photo doesn’t seem to show it at all. The proto’s visual is much better ascetically than the final figure.

Obviously the same sculpt, only the FOOT FIRE MYSTIC was made for whatever reason.

The more ambitious customizer could hypothetically obtain 3 more Fire Mystic toys and repaint them accordingly. These guys eventually would “manifest” in the MIRAGE comic books.

This EARLY prototype of the ‘Space Hoppin’ Raph’ toy is a more accurate to what appeared in the TMNT 2k3 T.V. show than what was actually manufactured and put into stores. These were the Teens’ stolen TRICERATON space suits in the show, you can see the suit’s “tail” in the back of the toy. The actual manufactured Space Hoppers

No single carded 6-pack of April’s little robot “friends” was produced for this line. However multiple Mousers would come packed in one of the S.W.A.T. multi-figure/vehicle packs in the mid-aughts.

Related notes:: Welp, the last quarter of the year blew by pretty, and here we are ( love it or hate it ) on the big HARD-COPY release day of one of the most talked about movie in the TMNT film pantheon – and even just as far as comic-book films from the past few years.

I’ll try to break down as many of the North American releases as i can as far as basic editions and the exclusive editions that are just do darn popular with the major blockbusters nowadays with the major retailers.

The basic retail versions on the Kmart site i think will represent the same basic offerings and similar pricing structure at other retailers as well as at Kmart. Keep an eye on this post is i learn of any major changes to exclusives offered or any additional exclusives that may be present that i have not listed here yet. I hope this list will help you narrow down your choices, and pick the best viewing option, price and premium content that’s right for you and your family. :

This incredibly popular art was made specifically made for B & N and you prolly recognize it from in-store displays promoting TMNT products around the time of the release of the film this past August. The clincher is that i am unclear if this was / IS a Pre-order/online exclusive or if the Poster will be available for pick-up if purchased in-store. I beleive it’s the prior and you had / have to order it on the site. I hope i’m wrong. There is no info on B & N’s website at moment about this. I will look into this and update accordingly, but any info anyone can share will be appreciated. I presume, soon – we will see these posters at auction from 3rd part sellers on places like ebay. Again i will look into this.

The Amazon Exclusive; Raphael statue Gift Set (Blu-ray 3D + DVD + Digital HD) should be ordered soon, if you with for a Christmas time delivery. The site still lists this set at $69.99.

TOYS R’ US is offering TMNT Earbuds along side the masks in their combo-pack exclusives.

“NINJA TURTLES” Movie :: FOOT SOLDIER { tOKKustom PARAMILITARY wash } (( 2014 ))

–>> The “NINJA TURTLES” title on the cards reflects early design and production by Playmates before “TEENAGE MUTANT” was added back to the title of the reboot film. Cards and promo material had already been produced or were already moving forward in production by the time name change was made so i presume it was kind of too late to go back and change the first wave releases. That may change on cards in future releases later this year/ next year.

I believe this has happened to Playmates before, for example when they had the Peter Jackson “KING KONG” license. KING KONG related products and toys had “KONG : THE 8th WONDER OF THE WORLD” labeling, toys that rolled out at this time i think represented an earlier title to that film. Until just simply “KING KONG” became the film’s title. The early design and production by the toy companies had already had “8th WONDER – ” labels and cards. Playmates was not the only company effected by this. Tho’ i doubt the Film title changing issues really go into effecting the parallel product line’s sales. Other factors on the other hand do tho’.

I’m finding that the the basic Movie Foot is pretty creepy so i ‘ll have one AS-IS.. it’s doubtful that the FOOT are wearing translucent masks in the film. They might, but amoung the first real villains we were able to sneak-a-peek at fully last year was the standard “PARAMILITARY” – like Foot Soldiers. I tried to make one as movie accurate as i could, and it really wasn’t that hard and didn’t take too long. This is just what i did, you can do whatever you want or nothing at all, of coarse.

Using metallic silver, Krylon Fusion “hammered-look” COPPER spray paint for plastics ( on mask ), and some various washes and minor paint on his scarf & metallics on the boots – i think i did okay. The survival knife and firearms have just a metallic wash over them and weapons & figure are coated in a simple sealant even a glue-like substance like Modge Podge rubbed on the figure will work. That final step is not 100 % necessary, but if he’s gonna be handled allot for play and display, i do suggest it.

Since the Foot seem to be going all G.I.Joe in this movie, expanding the Soldier’s arsenal was just an obvious & easy option. For his cannon, battering ram, shield and bullhorn i easily customized/metalized the “stolen” weapons from one of the cheap DOLLAR TREE “MILITARY ACTION FIGURES” available in the toy isle of most of those stores. The weapons aren’t perfect, but add a fun display option. The one displayed on the right is the toy i cobbled these weapons from. The frogman looks like he has some cool weapons to RAVAGE as in the future !!

..maybe i did Ok ?! Or maybe the Foot looks more like DESTRO from G.I. Joe, or Michael Myers from HALLOWEEN. H’m.. you tell me.

..More movie product is being released in more and more stores as you may have seen by now. Wal-marts are getting these pretty hefty palettes with tons of Movie figs: basic, DLX and large scale, april, and Raphael in Disguise. You will also find the newest of the standard Cartoon waves & re-releases in these palette displays ( i.e. Rahzar, Newtralizer, Slash, Dojo Splinter, and Cockroach T. reissue ).

The Outhousers like to speculate that our Big,Bald mystery guy ( pic floating around the web past few weeks ) is Oroku Saki himself in the latest movie trailer. Tokka still thinks an UTROM-like creature ( ala IDW KRANG is afoot around here somewheres, maybe i’m wrong). Maybe Fichtner’s character really is a Red-herring !!
