I thought it would interest many of you to know that Emily Laird (the charming and talented daughter of Peter Laird) is now a Public Relations intern for the Marketing Department at Playmates. Personally, I hope things work out for her and Playmates sees the wisdom in bringing her in full time.

For those of you who haven’t worked in the Consumer Products or Entertainment field, let me tell you how valuable it is to have team members who have a genuine interest is the property they are working with. Too often do you find people doing thier job to collect a paycheck, having no passion behind it. Having people who love what they do, and love the property they work with is KEY to long term success and stability. Having a product that is supported by people who love and care for it will ALWAYS yield better results.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Emily, you should know that she bleeds green just like we do. I think she realizes both how much the Turtles mean to so many of us, as well as the responsability she will one day have. She is definately the kind of person I’m happy to see running around the halls of Playmates. Good Luck Em!

CRACKED MAGAZINE “Cracked’s CONDEMNED MUTANT TURTLE SOUP with SHELLS” (( 1990 ))

–>> .. this i believe was just a cut – out label that was on the back of “CRACKED” magazine i think a spring time or summer issue of Cracked Magazine from 1990. I very VERY vaguely recall flipping thru’ it at the local Safeway way back when. It was a gag of coarse and the kids were invited to cut it out and place it on a real can of soup.

You could cut it out and place it on a real can of soup for a joke. Some kid did and it’s just lucky someone saved it for so long.
i bought it for really cheap off ebay. The fact that the can is so old , it’s rusting and soiled looking like it’s shelf worn from a million years ago at the Safeway in hell.

When you shake the can, it has some kind of clump making a wobbling rattle or something, so whatever the product was is now um .. long solidified into something very disturbing i am sure.

If we can track down that issue of CRACKED ( i’ll check one of my comic shops downtown ) maybe i can post a nice hi rez version of the label and people can print out and make their own cans of Turtle Soup.

Toy News That’s Good! Say Whaaaa?!!?

Today, from the floor of Toy Fair, Playmates made a bunch of announcements (one for each toy line). But to hell with the other stuff, you came here for turtles!

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES – Mutant Turtles THRIVE

Turtle Power is in full force with the dynamic 2010 line of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES toys available exclusively at Toys R Us. After a quarter of a century, kids of all ages still love to play with Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael. A brand new live action movie that traces the Turtles back to their origins is in the works and is tentatively slated for October 2011, with Galen Walker (TMNT) and Scott Mednick (300) producing. The product line will reflect the special blend of action and humor which makes this franchise so unique and popular. Playmates will introduce new products and re-introduce original products and packaging to focus on the retro style which first popularized the TMNT in the late 1980’s and early 90’s. ORIGINAL MOVIE STAR FIGURES of all four Turtles will be available, along with the Classic Party Van, Sludge Runners and Ninja Gear Role-Play in Retro Packaging. In addition, fall 2010 will see the launch of the CLASSIC COMIC BOOK FIGURES as seen in the very first comic book from 1984. Cowabunga!

So let me pull out the important bit for you. According to this release, the Classic Comic Book Figures (which have been known to have been a dead project for quite some time) are once again alive and kicking. This is pretty fantastic news, especially with amount of foot dragging our friends at NECA have been showing with their TMNT line. Perhaps 2010 won’t be such a quiet year as we thought. Fingers crossed!

Shameless Blog Exploitation

Hey gang,

As you may or may not know, Attempting to acquire the entire vintage (88-98) playmates catalog of toys has been a feverish passion of mine for the last 7 years or so…

As of this week, I am down to needing 3 items, so I am reluctantly using the power of the Green Machine to help me lay this thing to rest once and for all.

I am looking for the Don, Leo, and Raph, Ninja Practice Pals. They are stuffed pillow-esque items, similar to the old WWF Wrestling buddies. Here is what they look like:

I am offering $100 dollars for each of the 3 dolls in reasonable condition (they dont have to be perfect). Why am I paying so much? Because once I have these, I will have every single product that Playmates produced for the US market from 1988-1998.

Normally I wouldn’t shamelessly pimp my own agenda on GGM, but you can imagine how important this is to me.
