“After Archie Comics canceled the “Mighty Mutanimals” Steve Murphy (aka Dean Clarrain) told me they may return in the TMNT books one day. I was still on the Archie comp list, and one day an issue of TMNT arrived at my door.. I was stunned to see the Mutanimals had returned only to be literally murdered.

I made this sketch and ran it in the fanzine Rowrbrazzle. Somehow, Murphy saw the drawing, and called me to ask if he could run it in the TMNT comic. I said yes.

I liked drawing these characters, and the comics sold very briskly on the newsstands. I was never completely sure why the book got cancelled. ” — Mike Kazaleh;Animator, comic book artist; i.e. Mighty Mutanimals, TMNTA, Ren & Stimpy, ect. –

–>> ..the sadly defunct Toy retailer ( closed in 1992 ) was pretty $@#*’n cool and one of the greatest !!

If you’d never been to one of these stores: Hm – to tOkKid’s eyes & children in the 1970s, 80s, and early 1990s it pretty much was the COSTCO or “Sam’s Club” Warehouse of toys of it’s time. The place was seemingly huge, and the overstocked shelves reached very high ceilings in near every isle.

Entire isles were devoted to a majority of the most popular toys of the time. So imagine a TMNT toy lane from your wildest dreams – as far as the sore eye could see. To your beady and impressionable young , mushy mind – this was a NINJA TURTLE & Toy Mecca !! Think of it that way and maybe, just maybe you’ll get the tinge of just how overwhelmingly cool a trip to Children’s Palace / Child World really was.

.. guess it’s experiences like this that had added to Tokka’s mental anguish and over-all brain damage.

Yeh for some people, Turtlemania has actually been documented as a very severe mental-health condition requiring heavy medication from rather early age.

–>> A favourite scene from THE WIZARD is the TMNT ‘cameo’ where Christian Slater catches poor Beau Bridges playing the original NES Turtles game.. and he mistakes the first level for the third level. But i guess that wasn’t his fault per se. Still a funny scene.

Beau acts like he’s reeling in a giant swordfish as he’s wrestling with the NES game controller. Xp
