“This is a custom Michaelangelo figure I made for a contest for Figure Realm that came in 3rd place. Its a version of Michaelangelo from a one shot comic book from 1985 called, ‘Michaelangelo Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle in “The Christmas Aliens”‘
The base figure I used was a Michaelanglo figure from the new Nickelodeon line. I had to do a ton of dremeling on this guy. All of his knee and elbow pads were completely removed. I grinded down his shell a bit, along with his feet and hands. When I had the base figure grinded down to a size I wanted I then began sculpting his clothes over the base. His head has a high grade earth magnet implanted into it to hold his hats firmly on his head. The hats also have magnets implanted in them making the fit extra snug. Both skullcap and Santa hats were completely sculpted from scratch. In order to get the hats to fit perfectly on Mikeys head and to be removable I made a soft rubber cast of the head and sculpted on to the soft rubber. When the apoxie sculpt was hard I was able to flex the hats off the rubber. I then had perfect negatives to fit on the original head. Klunk the cat is also sculpted from scratch. The Lil Orphan Alien toy canisters are made from painted wooden dowels. The graphics on the canisters are digital drawings done on Adobe Illustrator and were printed out on water slide decal paper.
The scarf is made from a piece of felt fabric. Overall when I was done sculpting I was pleasantly surprised to find the apoxie sculpt had added a nice hefty weight to the toy.
I worked for MANY hours on this custom and I would love to see Mikey go to a good home.

–>> .. the next generation of MUTAGEN looks really cool. Shake and move the can around and the pearlecent effect looks eerie and neat !! Almost radioactive !! ALMOST LIKE TOOTHPASTE !!
The ooze seems a little tiny bit thicker than the older versions ..but it’s a bit hard to tell.
The colour and play value is just as good ..however the price has jumped to about 7.99 a can. That may be understandable due to inflation. In the 1990s a 4 oz. can of ooze i think was around 2 – 4 bucks. To Playmates’ defense ..you are getting a little bit more product than in the classic cans aside from the little bonus figure.
☣ ☣
If maneuvered during shipping or if you shake the can around, the Bonus Turtle inside can be slowly shifted to the edge of the container & you can see which pre-TMNT you’re gona get. This is great if you are going for your favourite Turtle or if you are the collector that wants to get just one of each Turtle without having to buy multiple containers of the Ooze. Good work,Playmates !!
Each display has 12 cans per case, my first purchase was the last 5 of the display case they had from the toy store shelf. Only Leo, Don, and Mikey were available in the remaining cans i purchased. I’ll have to try to get Raph later.
The 2000s INDIVIDUAL cans ( as far as i know ) were only available overseas so i cannot compare prices to the equivalent containers. You could only get those cans at retail with the deluxe Mutations figures.
Trying to recall :: Ooze cans were available individually OUTSIDE of North America in the 2000s. Unless i was missing something, the individual cans weren’t not available in the States. You had to buy the deluxe Mutations Turtle figures to get the Bonus Ooze.
The individual cans overseas did come with an exclusive “bonus pre-mutant turtle”. If i recall.. i think the little figures had moving parts. Not sure tho’. Cannot recall at this time.
The third incarnation the TMNT Mutations toys came out during the 2007 movie era of toys.
Similar concept as the classic Mutations but with improved sculpting and detailing of the “baby turtle” forms and improved articulation of the Mutated forms. Still these toys were controversial with some fans.
Never-the-less each of the teens came with a mini T.C.R.I. can of Ooze with a different colour to match each Turtle. Purple ooze for Don, Reddish ooze for Raph.. ect.
..this stuff really does look like toothpaste.

** According to RICH, the IDW – NICK TMNT Animated TPB appears in shops next month ..
–>> Old friend & Fan-Fave Dario hinted during my visit to NYCC this past October that he was in the lead for illustration duties on the NICK show related book. While this remains to be fully seen if it is to be in conjunction with the book due next month – -the above print may be more than count as a spoiler alert.

***COWABUNGA CORNER’s interview with Dario ..::
“Through Ninja Turtle history there has been a lot of artist who have touched the TMNT Comic Books, between Mirage, Archie, Image, Dreamwave and now IDW. Turtle fans have had the honor to see the art styles of many different people. One of those people is Dario Brizuela who was an artist on the Tales of TMNT Volume 2 by Mirage Studios, and could very well be an artist for one of the new IDW Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle comic series. Here we talk to Dario about the possible chance of him working on IDW’s newest Turtle series which has not come out yet.
We met up with Dario at New York City Comic Con, thanks to Tokka who pointed out his booth to me and introduced us. Dario and I talked a little bit as I bought a print and an original artwork piece. After talking for a bit I asked to do this interview. It’s short, but was really good to get this chance to talk with Dario.”
