Further Proof That Stan Sakai Is One of the Coolest Guys On the Planet!
Hey gang,
You may remember several months ago, when I picked this up from my local comic shop.
It is a limited edition cold cast Usagi statue put out by Dark Horse. When I bought the statue from my LCS they said, “You know, Stan Sakai comes by this shop sometimes. Infact, he was in here yesterday!”
I thought that was pretty cool, and hoped that I might run into him some day. Running into comic folk outside of conventions is always way cooler.
So a few weeks go by, and it is Free Comic Book Day 09. After visiting with Kevin at Golden Apple, i drove down to my LCS to drop off some signed copies of the FCBD Turtles book that I wanted to suprise the folks that work there with.
Wouldn’t you know, the first thing they said to me was, “You JUST missed Stan!” I was pretty disappointed 🙁
As you know, we at GGM follow Stan’s Live Journal blog pretty regularly, so after checking to see if it was ok with my LCS, I decided to ask Stan via his live journal if I could leave my statue there for him to sign:
I’ve been meaning to ask you Stan…It turns out that you and I frequent the same LCS (I will refrain from the name incase you have crazy stalkers or something, but it is the one next to Zankou 😉 )
Anyway, every time I go in there they tell me “oh man, you just missed Stan!”
I’ve wanted to get you to sign the Usagi and Spot Statue I bought there, so i was wondering if i left it there for you, would you mind signing it next time you go in?
Thanks!
Stephan!
To which he replied on the very same night:
No problem about signing anything. Just leave it with the folks at the store, and let me know it’s there. You can tell me by posting it here in my Live Journal. I don’t get to that store often, but I’ll make it a point to go.
Well dang! What a cool dude! So I ran down to my LCS and dropped the statue off. Flash forward about a week to today when I decided to go in for the newest edition of Tales. When I walk in, the two behind the counter look at me funny and say, “Do you have Stan-Dar? He was here earlier today, and he signed your statue.”
Check it out!
So, needless to say, Stan Sakai is the coolest guy ever. He went out of his way just to sign something for a fan he has never met. Stan, if you’re reading this, thank you SO MUCH! You’re awesome!
Forever War Being Re-Drafted!
In an inpromptu chat this morning with Forever War writer (and all around awesome guy) Steve Murphy, GGM was told that the long time Mirage writer has scrapped his first approach to his upcomming “Archie” swan song, The Forever War, and is coming at it from a whole new angle!
Steve’s Words:
“It seems to be back on track. I’ve scrapped everything to date and started with an entirely new approach.”
“It will probably move the date out… but then again it might not. Very hard for me to say.”
I don’t know about you, but even if it does move the date out, I’d rather he have something he is really happy with!

Ebay Alert: Coming Out of Their Shells Tour Crew Jacket
These only pop up once in a very great while, and when I got mine, people on the internets were flipping their lids over it, so I thought it only proper to post it. These jackets are super nice, and the design on the back is embroidered directly into the jacket. Theres also a classic TMNT logo on the front over the left breast. Mine had the name of the original owner sewn there too, though I don’t know if that was standard or not.

Johnny Cupcakes TMNT Shirt and Movie Screening Update
I know a ton of you online were interested in this shirt, so I just wanted to let you know that I spoke with Johnny via e-mail, and the shirts will be available through their online store this coming friday!
Additionally, Johnnyblaze of the technodrome attended the Movie Screening in Boston, and had this to say:
I actually went to this, it was a lot of fun. Got the t shirt and the limited edition poster he hand made (I think he did a run of only 78 ) that he was also selling. It was a manhole cover, with the film’s title and Johnny Cupcake’s presents on it, being removed by a turtle (all you see is his fingers from beneath the man hole cover) Its a pretty sweet looking poster. Going to pick up a frame for it soon. They gave out free pizza to everyone and we watched the film. Reaction was pretty cool. The film’s logo right before we first see the turtles got a huge reaction. A lot of laughter at certain parts (Raphael being kept in a tub way too small for him instead of a bed for example, and pre mutation Splinter in his cage practicing how to fight. The funny thing is as a kid, I remember people laughing their asses off at that part too lol…), Casey got a lot of cheers, especially his flirting with April scenes, and the biggest reaction of course was at the end when the turtles screamed ‘Cowabunga!” and the entire theater went nuts with applause. Over all it was a truly fun night. They are doing a showing of Goonies next month and Ghostbusters in October so I will be there for those mos def.
