I was alerted that the “Environmental Playsets” were part of a series of TOMB RAIDER, LAURA CROFT toys by Playmates – – so apparently they did see some kind of release.

–>> SDCC ’03 would be my first of the California Cons and Playmates had a nice medium-sized presence to help celebrate of the then, still very new 4kids TMNT T.V. show. Michael Dooney himself was on hand much of the time at Playmates’ booth to sign autographs and sketch. Toy giveaways were were done sporadically and this was my first “official” exposure to the TMNT at a convention post previous independent TURTLE MEDIA convention appearances. Most of my personal photos from this Con & particular were accidentally deleted. However this two page spread highlights the most interesting releases of the second wave of the TMNT-2k3 toy line that were on display. Of note are two deluxe boxed sets that were never sent into production. They were incredibly impressive in person. But they were not to see the manufactured time of day and have gone into the PLAYMATES archives for good. The figures however are merely “battle damaged” repaints.

During some **TOKKA INSTAGRAM perusing; i picked up some screen shots showing live packaged shots of the anticipated TMNT WACKY WOBBLERS. the famous head-bobbers that helped put FUNKO on the map. These should be hitting store shelves and online soon if not RIGHT NOW !! Keep an eye!! Also, last years intro of the ROTUND Articulated-NOGGIN “FABRIKATIONS” plush toys ( kinda like Plushie POP VINYLS) will get a fun looking wave of Retro Style TURTLE TEENS in the coming months. I’m sure Funko will spill even more of their Turtle Guts at this weekends NYC TOY FAIR.

Licensing . biz :: Nick has had a healthy relationship LEGO Brands and MEGA BRANDS ( Mega Bloks), well know competitors in the BRICK TOY Biz. Lately ( past several months or so ) you’ve seen SPONGE BOB’s toy franchise shift from LEGO boxes to MEGA BLOKS packaging. Looks like it’s the TURTLES TURN.

Mattel teams with Nickelodeon for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mega Bloks. If you recall in the early 2000s the 4kids TURTLE show, early on had a licensing deal with MEGA BLOKS introducing the Teens to their first REAL Brick building toys. With this new deal, Nick’s TMNT make a stunning return to the brand !!
Over the next 72 hours or so, Toy Fair is gonna pouring more and more info out. Aggregating the most important TMNT info will be my goal for the next 48 – 72 hours +. Watch this space ..
