DOLLAR TREE’s “ALIEN ACTION FIGURES” aren’t necessarily the answer to Steve Murphy’s mysterious and freaky “SONS OF SILENCE” from the good ol’ TMNTA of the ’90s..

..however, if ya let Tokka “PROBE” your brain for just a little bit – maybe he can help you come up with an oddball play option for your collection that comes kinda close. Well maybe – maybe not.

One part creepy, one part crappy, maybe a little cute, maybe a little ugly, but absolutely cheap !!

Available for a little over a year now at Dollar Tree stores, and apparently still available at some of them .. these big-eye, big-head..but-ugly buggers with the somewhat menacing looking blasters & unused battery compartments are only articulated at the neck and arms. But again for a buck ..these bugs are super affordable

Far as i can tell, only 2 variants of the same mold exist; green and tan. However, in similar packaging & slimmer scale are two-packs of “Ninja Aliens” using similar generic male body molds for Dollar Tree’s Power Ranger & Wrestling toy knock-offs but with Spider-man like heads.

If ya got a penchant like Tokka does for all things weird & bootleg-like these guts may be up you’re alley. Whadda ya got to loose for only a buck ??!

WAL-MART ‘DOLLAR STATIONS’ & TMNT SRI palletes, quick comic n’ NEWS ROUND-UP

–>> If you check the “DOLLAR STATION” at your local WAL-MART store ( pending if they have one ), a large.. light blue pallet sales device with bins filled with low-cost nick-knack items on both sides of the station. A large variety of things like small utility baskets, pocket fragrances and lotions, combs & novelty items all about a dollar or so are in the bins. Innovative Designs has a large number of licensed stationary items in these bins as well ..all under 3 bucks. In fact every one of the things displayed on the table in the photo above was all priced at $1 each.

Pencil sets, sketching & notepad sets, jumbo erasers, temporary tattoos, stamping markers, memo pads, GIANT pens and pencils, pencil pouches ..and a cool dry-erase board –

..great for leaving a note for mom or dad, the kids, the dog, a honey-do list, or just listing various self-loathing character flaws.

SRI also has a TMNT specific licensing palette in WAL-MART stores with items for the whole family. Water bottles, tumblers, cups and dinnerware sets like two pack plates and kiddie bowls , children’s sleepwear, both kids and adult t-shirts, ball caps, adult boxer shorts, bed-wear with character head pillows and blankets, backpack danglers & more. These palettes may be be located near the dollar station bins.

Rough breakdown of the schedule for releases ; the past few weeks ..at least in Colorado and further west IDW’s shipping schedule has been off in certain circumstances and at certain shops but for FEBRUARY 27 we have : Secret History of the Foot Clan #3; TMNT #50 Treasury Edition

I haven’t investigated the reason for the shipping delays and wonkiness, but i guess it’s going to depend where on the map you live and Diamond’s shipping issues. Hopefully this will be remedied soon.

We’ve watch the Turtle games grow and change throughout the years. Since Nickelodeon has got the Turtles fans have been asking “Who will be doing the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game?” and today we got the answer as I saw on twitter from Nickelodeon UK PR‏ “Pleased to announce new global deal between Nickelodeon and Activision to produce Turtles video games.” This is big news for the TMNT fandom! “This is a custom Michaelangelo figure I made for a contest for Figure Realm that came in 3rd place. Its a version of Michaelangelo from a one shot comic book from 1985 called, ‘Michaelangelo Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle in “The Christmas Aliens”‘

The base figure I used was a Michaelanglo figure from the new Nickelodeon line. I had to do a ton of dremeling on this guy. All of his knee and elbow pads were completely removed. I grinded down his shell a bit, along with his feet and hands. When I had the base figure grinded down to a size I wanted I then began sculpting his clothes over the base. His head has a high grade earth magnet implanted into it to hold his hats firmly on his head. The hats also have magnets implanted in them making the fit extra snug. Both skullcap and Santa hats were completely sculpted from scratch. In order to get the hats to fit perfectly on Mikeys head and to be removable I made a soft rubber cast of the head and sculpted on to the soft rubber. When the apoxie sculpt was hard I was able to flex the hats off the rubber. I then had perfect negatives to fit on the original head. Klunk the cat is also sculpted from scratch. The Lil Orphan Alien toy canisters are made from painted wooden dowels. The graphics on the canisters are digital drawings done on Adobe Illustrator and were printed out on water slide decal paper.

The scarf is made from a piece of felt fabric. Overall when I was done sculpting I was pleasantly surprised to find the apoxie sculpt had added a nice hefty weight to the toy.
I worked for MANY hours on this custom and I would love to see Mikey go to a good home.
