–>> The “NINJA TURTLES” title on the cards reflects early design and production by Playmates before “TEENAGE MUTANT” was added back to the title of the reboot film. Cards and promo material had already been produced or were already moving forward in production by the time name change was made so i presume it was kind of too late to go back and change the first wave releases. That may change on cards in future releases later this year/ next year.

"NINJA TURTLES" Movie :: FOOT SOLDIER ii (( 2014 ))

I believe this has happened to Playmates before, for example when they had the Peter Jackson “KING KONG” license. KING KONG related products and toys had “KONG : THE 8th WONDER OF THE WORLD” labeling, toys that rolled out at this time i think represented an earlier title to that film. Until just simply “KING KONG” became the film’s title. The early design and production by the toy companies had already had “8th WONDER – ” labels and cards. Playmates was not the only company effected by this. Tho’ i doubt the Film title changing issues really go into effecting the parallel product line’s sales. Other factors on the other hand do tho’.

"NINJA TURTLES" Movie :: FOOT SOLDIER { tOKKustom PARAMILITARY wash } viii // ..serial killer (( 2014 ))

I’m finding that the the basic Movie Foot is pretty creepy so i ‘ll have one AS-IS.. it’s doubtful that the FOOT are wearing translucent masks in the film. They might, but amoung the first real villains we were able to sneak-a-peek at fully last year was the standard “PARAMILITARY” – like Foot Soldiers. I tried to make one as movie accurate as i could, and it really wasn’t that hard and didn’t take too long. This is just what i did, you can do whatever you want or nothing at all, of coarse.

"NINJA TURTLES" Movie :: FOOT SOLDIER { tOKKustom PARAMILITARY wash } x // ..Foot Tactical Shield (( 2014 )) Using metallic silver, Krylon Fusion “hammered-look” COPPER spray paint for plastics ( on mask ), and some various washes and minor paint on his scarf & metallics on the boots – i think i did okay. The survival knife and firearms have just a metallic wash over them and weapons & figure are coated in a simple sealant even a glue-like substance like Modge Podge rubbed on the figure will work. That final step is not 100 % necessary, but if he’s gonna be handled allot for play and display, i do suggest it.

"NINJA TURTLES" Movie :: FOOT SOLDIER  { tOKKustom PARAMILITARY wash } iv // ..arsenals  (( 2014 ))

Since the Foot seem to be going all G.I.Joe in this movie, expanding the Soldier’s arsenal was just an obvious & easy option. For his cannon, battering ram, shield and bullhorn i easily customized/metalized the “stolen” weapons from one of the cheap DOLLAR TREE “MILITARY ACTION FIGURES” available in the toy isle of most of those stores. The weapons aren’t perfect, but add a fun display option. The one displayed on the right is the toy i cobbled these weapons from. The frogman looks like he has some cool weapons to RAVAGE as in the future !!

MUTATED SPYROACH

Cockroach Terminator Mutated Spyroach. Meet the biggest and toughest insect ever! Cockroach Terminator was once Donnie’s little spy before falling into a container of Mutagen Ooze and mutating into an unstoppable monster. He is ready to destroy anything that crosses his way, including the Turtles! Anyone who pesters this insect should be ready to get stung!

..minor variation on the newer card insert, including instructions on attaching the “antenna” piece into Roach’s head. This insert is from the original release. The browner tones on the body and carapace seem a little darker as well. His one “Good eye” seems to be painted in a lighter black. The cylindrical metal component on his shell on this re-issue has NOT been painted silver as on the original release for some reason. I suppose you could always paint it yourself.

The Official Turtle Power Documentary: A Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

If there is a DVD to look forward to this summer, it has to be Turtle Power: A Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The project started in 2009, beginning with a few interviews, but then it grew and blossomed into an amazing archive of everything turtle-centric imaginable. From the early beginnings of the comics, to the big screen, little screen, and everything in between. The crew traveled back and forth across the country, meeting with comic artists, actors, illustrators, producers, writers, fans, collectors, and anyone else they could get their camera on.

The result was hundreds of hours of interviews and commentary on the entire history and future of the franchise, from Eastman and Laird, to Viacom and Paramount’s upcoming movie.

From what I can tell, there is NO correlation between this and the book that is coming out in a month or two. But both items would be a fantastic addition to your collection.

The video will be available August 12th, so check out the Trailer, visit their website and like them on facebook.

Playmates "touching-up" previous waves..

  • Got this in from a friend back East; i believe located in Georgia at a TARGET store, thanks Dakota ::   Reissues of figures from prior TMNT waves such as Cockroach Terminator ( shown in the screencap from the friend on Instagram above), Dogpound, Leatherhead, and Snakeweed and maybe others – – have been reported to have newer paint applications and deco that looks much more improved and somewhat similar to their prototype predecessors. Playmates’s scale with the Turtles line has been an ever present issue – – but these newer paint decos on the older releases may make up for the line’s short comings. So again, keep an eye out.

IDW METALHEAD ✖ ✖

Previews are out, books are on the shelves and reviews are popping up so I feel there’s no need to hold this back.
Metalhead’s redesign for IDW’s TMNT! Had fun with this one! As you may see on his debut book (TMNT#34) the speeder/car mode was something that I suggested and writer Tom Waltz and editor Bobby Curnow embraced.

My goal here was to not only give this version of the character a voice and look of its own, but also to pay a homage to the original design. Mission accomplished I believe.

Hope you all enjoy it.
